Some years ago I built a portable hyper stereo rig using, I think, two SD850 Canon cameras and SDM. I was pretty pleased with the quality of the synchronization, although it wasn't perfect. If I can find a stereo picture of the rig, I will post it. I sold it a long time ago because I was not thrilled with the setup time. The rig was based on long drawer slides and a folding handle. The whole thing fit into a Hasselblad telephoto lens case. P.S. I was thinking about photoshoping the tail rotor, but I just think that the mis-synchronization is more interesting than if it looked perfect.
What camera was used here? A stereo film camera? Shutter sync is very good on main rotor, and there's a small difference on the tail rotor. Funny thing about helicopter shots - without any reference points, the apparent depth is almost zero. I learned that first hand last year...if it's just a helicopter in the sky - it's a pretty useless shot. But here you have established reference points in the ship, the near water, and the horizon. Still, copter shots are challenging.
