It was accidental. This is ship's deck,and the ship was underway (shadows shifted between cha-cha captures). Auto-alignment is done via Stereophotomaker.

Is it intended or accidental? If the difference in depth between the ground and the shadow was chosen, why not made it hover instead? It would have been less conflicting while still mindfuck.
By the way how did you do this to keep such good alignment?
I agree, lot's of effort was focused on durability during earth movements. The pipe supports rests on a 1/4" thick sheet of teflon, and the elongated "bumpers" help constrain total movment.
That is cool. The pipeline is designed to move up and down and sideways, to flex in the event of large earthquakes, which they definitely have in Alaska. You can see how the pipe can slide sideways on the riser, and it looks like the sliding platform can may be even rotate a bit. Amazing work.
